Sonia Shaikh, Esq. focuses on strategic business planning and taxation is centered around her firm belief that the best regulatory defense is one that eliminates an issue before it arises. Her proactive and preemptive advocacy provides clients with successful tax-reductions through tactical entity formation and structuring, both at the federal and state levels. Prior to joining Zell Law, Sonia was a senior associate at an international accounting firm where she provided tax controversy services through the audit and administrative appeals phases, as well as completed due diligence for a variety of merger and acquisition transactions. She also interned for the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue, General Counsel mergers and acquisitions. Sonia's work has resulted in a rolodex spanning 30+ taxing jurisdictions, allowing her to provide excellent and expedited service for her clients.
Sonia is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia. She is a graduate of George Washington University Law School, where she served as an Articles Editor for both the Federal Circuit Bar Journal and George Washington Business and Finance Law Review. She has also received a Taxation LL.M. with a Certificate in State and Local Tax from Georgetown University.
Outside of her professional life, Sonia is an appreciator of the arts and an avid baker. She has played the viola for over 18 years and is a member of various D.C. based art and culture societies.
